A Wednesday morning fire first noticed by a water meter reader destroyed a home near the Enondale community in Kemper County, but resulted in no injuries.
Porterville Fire Chief Fred Eldridge said his department received the call at about 8:45 a.m. They were first to arrive at the brick home located on A.C. Eades road in the southeast part of the county. The exact cause is under investigation.
He said he isn't sure how many people lived in the home, which is owned by Clementine Butler.
Shortly after Porterville firefighters arrived on the scene, Three Mile Corner firefighters from Scooba arrived. Firefighters from Lauderdale County's Center Ridge Volunteer Fire Department also assisted. He said three pumpers responded, and 1 1/2 inch hoses with fog nozzles were used to fight the flames. East Mississippi Electric Power Association employees also arrived to remove a power line downed during the fire.
