Clarkdale sweeps Edinburg; Sumter teams reach finals

The Clarkdale Lady Bulldogs upped their record to 5-10 with Friday's 59-44 win at Clarkdale.
Tamara Brown scored 16 points and pulled down 17 rebounds to lead Clarkdale. JorD'an Orr had 13 points and Carmelita Naylor added 10.
Melanie Hardage led Edinburg, 6-6, with 15 points. April Ellis tossed in 11.
Clarkdale led 26-18 at halftime. After Edinburg got to within 40-34 to start the final period, the Lady Bulldogs claimed a 19-10 advantage over the final eight minutes.
Clarkdale boys 89, Edinburg 74: The Bulldogs made it a clean sweep as they outscored Edinburg 47-30 in the first half of Friday's win at Clarkdale. Clarkdale led 70-46 by the end of the third period.
Clarkdale, 4-8, got 25 points from Richard Matthews, 17 from Jamie Followay, 14 from Bryant Gaddis, and 11 each from Matt Minchew and Anthony Holliday.
Edinburg, 2-9, got 26 points from Shane Estes, 20 from Roman Ingram, and 12 from Jerry Germany.
The Bulldogs' next game is Monday against Stringer at Clarkdale.
Sumter Academy girls 49, South Choctaw 31: Sumter outscored South Choctaw 18-3 in the first quarter and 16-6 in the third to take Friday's win in the Pickens Academy Invitational.
Jess Watkins had 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Sumter, 5-1. Natalie Fox added 11 points, five rebounds, and two blocked shots. Amanda Chambless had 10 points and six rebounds.
Taylor Andrews and Heather Glosson both had nine points for SCA.
Sumter's next action will be against the Pickens-Marion Military Institute winner today at 5 p.m.
Sumter Academy boys 73, South Choctaw 37: Sumter jumped on South Choctaw for a 38-14 halftime lead in taking Friday's win at the Pickens Academy Invitational.
Chase Schroeder led Sumter with 16 points. John Upchurch scored 12, Wayne Malone added nine, Paul Chance had eight, and Shane Martin and Joseph Hoggle both had seven.
Jeffery Mason led SCA with nine points. Brad Johnson and Dusty Johnson both scored six.
Sumter will take on the Pickens-MMI winner in today's finals at 6:30 p.m.
Quitman girls 42, Mendenhall 41: The Lady Panthers improved to 2-8 overall and 1-0 in Division 5-4A as they outscored Mendenhall 12-10 in the final period of Friday's game at Quitman.
Shaquilla Mack led Quitman with 18 points. Takeisha Bonner scored eight and Kemonica Magee added seven.
After a 10-10 first period deadlock, Mendenhall took a 22-20 lead into halftime. Quitman trailed 31-30 to start the fourth quarter.
Mendenhall got 10 points from Delishia Champion and nine from Ebonie Walker.
The next action for the Lady Panthers will be in the Frazier-Yarbrough Invitational which begins on Monday.
Quitman boys 56, Mendenhall 52: The Panthers won every quarter but the third in knocking off the Tigers Friday at Quitman.
Quitman led 12-11 after one quarter and took a 28-25 lead into halftime. Mendenhall was trailing 38-37 to start the fourth quarter.
Quitman, 4-6, got 19 points from Renaldo McKenzie, 12 from David Laphand, and 11 from Lance Bartee.
Mendenhall got 16 points from Joey Dixon and 13 from James Hobbs.
The next action for the Lady Panthers will be in the Frazier-Yarbrough Invitational which begins on Monday.
Choctaw Central girls 76, Kosciusko 23: The Lady Warriors led 34-12 at halftime and then blitzed the Lady Whippets 25-1 in the third quarter as they improved to 8-1 with Friday's win in the Louisville Wildcat Classic.
Choctaw got 12 points from Daundrea Johnson, 10 from Shavon Willis, nine from Crystal Lewis, and seven from Trisha Phillips.
The Lady Warriors face Louisville tonight at 7 p.m.
Choctaw Central boys 58, Kosciusko 45: The Warriors got their second win of the season as they outscored the Whippets 31-14 in the second half.
Devon Jim led the Warriors, 2-6, with 17 points. Beasley Willis and Anslem Henry both scored nine.
The Warriors will take on Louisville tonight at 8:15 p.m.
Central Academy girls 63, Wayne 26: The Lady Vikings rolled to a 38-5 halftime lead in thumping Wayne in the consolation bracket of the Heidelberg Academy tournament.
Megan Stokes had 25 points and 18 rebounds to lead Central, 7-9. Margaret McClure scored 14 points and had six rebounds and four steals.
Leslie Hancock had 14 points and four steals.
Wayne, 0-9, got eight points from Erin Stanley and six from Keri Hutto.
Central will face the Kemper-Newton winner today at 4 p.m.
In the finals of the tournament, the Heidelberg girls will host Sylva-Bay at 7 p.m. and the Newton boys will play Kemper at 8:30.
Wayne County boys 69, Laurel 51: The War Eagles raced to a 21-8 first quarter lead as they improved to 10-2 with their win at Laurel.
Wayne County took a 37-19 lead into halftime.
Rayford Everett led Wayne County with 18 points.
John Gray and Detric Slater both had 14.
Laurel got 17 points from Anthony Robinson and 14 from Joseph Jones. Wayne's next game is Friday against Brandon at Waynesboro.
Southern Choctaw boys 72, McIntosh 67: Southern Choctaw raced to a 23-12 first quarter lead in beating McIntosh in the semifinals of the Millry, Ala., tournament.
The Indians carried a 40-30 lead into halftime and were ahead 55-44 at the end of the third period.
Sean Causey led SCHS, 1-1, with 18 points. Larry Campbell scored 15 and Bernard McGrew tossed in 10.
Southern Choctaw will play for the tournament championship tonight.

Meridian dropped a 2-1 shootout match with Clinton Friday night in the first round of the Brandon Invitational.
Jonathan Davis scored Meridian's goal in regulation. Davis, Peter Davidson, and Leslie Rush each had a goal in the shootout.
Patrick Widen had a good game in the net for Meridian.
The Wildcats, 4-5-1, will face Vicksburg at 11:30 this morning in the consolation bracket.
