Mary Jo "Jodie" Johnson, 56, of Russellville, Ala. passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held March 31 at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Dennis Steward officiating. Interment will be in Knights of Pythias Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her father, Curtis Eugene Porter; her mother, Ruth Lorene Bozeman; and a wonderful step-father, Donald Ray Bozeman.
She is survived by her daughters, Tracy Prince and husband, Jamey, and Christy Borden; sisters, Vickie Steward and husband, Dennis, and Wanda Gail Weaver and husband, Robin; grandchildren, Malia Bunt, Tyler Bunt, Breanna Prince, and Makayla Prince; four nieces, Misty Steward, Johnna Gerstman, Rebekah Myrick, LeeAnn Hayes; nephew, Cody Weaver; and great-nephew, Landon Gerstman.
Pallbearers were Tyler Bunt, Ryne Smith, Jamey Prince, J.R. Glasgow, Jamie Myrick, and Seth Gerstman.
She was a strong, kind soul. She was a loving sister, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren were her world. Her family will miss her very much.
Weeda Shelnutt

On March 28, 2009, Helen Elouise Hightower Shelnutt, better known to family and friends as Weeda went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 77 after battling an extended illness.
Weeda was born in Franklin County, Ala., she was a chartered member of New Harmony Baptist Church in Phil Campbell. She worked at the Haleyville Textile for 35 years.
Weeda loved God, her church and gospel singing. She enjoyed traveling near and far to hear various gospel quartets, she also enjoyed attending singing schools as a child. She was the song director for many years at her church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years Oscar Forbe Shelnutt; her parents, Rev. and Mrs. T.D. Hightower; one brother, Ronald Douglas Hightower; one sister, Nellie Jo Hightower Greely; and five brothers-in-law, Lester Cagle, Jack Mobley, Tillman Cole, Ron Greely, and Larry Hand.
She is survived by her sisters, Louise Cagle, Louell Cole, Iva Dobbins and husband, George, Betty Mobley, Bobbie Fell and husband, Gene, Sheila Kimbrough and husband, Danny; brothers, Cuethal Hightower and wife, Yvonne and Eddie Hightower and wife, Mary Nell; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Weeda is also survived by her special neice, Tina Fell Seay, her husband, Jeff and their children, Tanner Parker and Tiona Seay, who gave her unconditional love and care during her long illness. The family would like to thank them for their dedication and sacrifices through the last few years.
The family would also like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice of Winfield, Susan Lovett and the staff at Phil Campbell Clinic, Dr. Keith Morrow, and the nursing staff on the 2nd floor at Russellville Hospital. And everyone for your prayers, food, and other acts of kindness that you have shown during this time.
Funeral services were held March 30, 2009 at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville, Ala. with Bro. Mark Daniels and Bro. George Dobbins officiating. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery in Phil Campbell.

Chelsey Briana Hacker, 16, of Vina, Ala., passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009. She was born February 8, 1993 in Franklin County, Ala. She was a sophomore at Vina High School and a member of Vina First Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with Bro. Tony Gasaway officiating. Burial was in Burnout Cemetery in Vina.
Survivors are her parents, Shannon and Kim Hacker, of Vina; one brother, Zack Hacker, of Vina; two half-brothers, Blake Webb, of Belmont, Miss. and Jesse Webb, of Red Bay; her grandparents, Lee and Wanda Hacker, of Vina; grandmother, Peggy Webb, of Hamilton, Ala.; two aunts, Christy Thorne, of Red Bay and Bridget Whitaker and husband, Joey, of Fulton, Miss.; five cousins, Nicholas Taylor and Andy Thorne, both of Red Bay, Jonathan Whitaker, Devon Whitaker and Tyler Whitaker, all of Fulton, Miss.
She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, James and Jennie Barker.
Pallbearers were her classmates.

Rollin McKinley "Buz" Cox, 79, of Red Bay, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009 at Red Bay Hospital. He was born January 1, 1930 in Alabama to Bert and Catherine Cox. He was a logger for 25 years.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay, Ala. with Bro. David Humbers officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery in Hodges, Ala.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Cox, of Red Bay; two sons, Benny Cox and David Cox, both of Red Bay; one daughter, Dinah Gresham, of Red Bay; five sisters, Polly Marques, Elaine Keller, Cathleen McDonald, Jewell Ballard and Sue Cox, all of Alabama; one brother, Leburn Cox, of Cullman, Ala.; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Dennis Cox and Ricky Cox; one sister and two brothers.

Hazel Cox, 77, of Red Bay, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009 at ECM Hospital. She was born September 5, 1931 in Alabama to Jessie Green and Bertha Ray Mitchell. She was a homemaker and attended Patterson Chapel.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 30, 2009 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay, Ala. with Bro. Paul Ryan officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery in Hodges, Ala.
She is survived by two sons, Benny Cox and David Cox, both of Red Bay; one daughter, Dinah Gresham, of Red Bay; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rollin "Buz" Cox on March 23, 2009; two sons, Dennis Cox and Ricky Cox; her parents; her sisters and brothers, Della Lofton, Guy Mitchell, Ella Holt, Arch Mitchell, Vonna Raper, Annie Mae Mitchell and Alla Mitchell.

Margaret Gail Hisaw, 64, of Red Bay, Ala., passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Red Bay Hospital. She was born August 26, 1944 in Belmont, Miss. to Willie and Lela Ivey Wooten. She was a homemaker and member of Praise Tabernacle in Russellville, Ala.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 27, 2009 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with Bro. Bobby Stancil officiating. Burial was in East Prentiss Cemetery in New Site, Miss.
She is survived by one son, Gaylon Haithcock and wife, Tammy, of Haleyville, Ala.; two daughters, Robin Bentley and husband, Chris, of Russellville, Ala. and Heather Warren and husband, Josh, of Dennis, Miss.; two sisters, Shirley Hester and husband, Charles, of Red Bay and Jeanette West, of Booneville, Miss.; three brothers, Randy Wooten and wife, Jane, of Mt. Pleasant, Miss., Charles Wooten and wife, Annette, of Dennis, Miss. and J.W. Wooten, Jackson, Miss.; nine grandchildren, Cory Tate, Joshua Ridings, Sheena Haithcock, Justin Ridings, Joseph Ridings, Brooke Pounders, Dylan Haithcock, Miranda Haithcock and Jacob Warren; and four great-grandchildren, Addison Waid, Janessa Ridings, Gabriel Dillard and Miley Whitten.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ben Hisaw; a daughter, Raina Haithcock; four grandchildren, Blake Warren, Braxton Tate, Trevor Tate and Alyssa Warren.
Mable James

Mable Florence James, 81, of Red Bay, Ala. passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born October 30, 1927 in Nettleton, Miss. to William and Alma Armstrong Askew. She was an employee of Blue Bell for 25 years and a member of Providence Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held March 26, 2009 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with Bro. Lynton Younger and Bro. David Perry officiating. Burial was in Burnout Cemetery in Vina, Ala.
She is survived by seven children, Doris Jernigan and husband, Jimmy, of Fulton, Miss, Brenda Turbyfill of Vina, Ala., Sonny James and wife, Sue, of Marietta, Ohio, Janice Loden and husband, Brack and Foy James, all of Tremont, Miss., Troy James and wife, Dawn, of Red Bay, Ala., Mary Eastep and husband, Toby, of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; three sisters, Annie Lou Burks, Willene McCabe, both of Florida, and Faye Turbin, of Potts Camp, Miss.; twin brother, Marion Askew and wife, Betty, of Potts Camp, Miss.; nine grandchildren; one step-grandson; ten great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray James.
Pallbearers were Terry James, Jerry James, Ronald Coats, Richard Townsend, Jeff Bolding and Matthew Askew. Honorary pallbearers were Johnnie Weatherford, Tim Sparks, Bobby Ashley, Johnny McCabe and Wesley Eastep.
Donald E. Burleson

Donald E. Burleson, 88, of Russellville, Ala. passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009.
Don was born on September 25, 1920 in New Center, Morgan County, Ala. to John James and Fannie Belle Curry Burleson. Don served during WWII in the Merchant Marines and was employed by Southern Airways immediately following the war as an aircraft mechanic. From the 1950's, Don was in the automobile business in the Russellville and Shoals area until his retirement. He was a charter member of the Muscle Shoals Shrine Club and enjoyed years of helping crippled and burned children through the shrine charities and hospitals. He was a lover of horses and raised Tennessee Walkers and Racking horses most of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Sarah Amanda Burleson; son, Anthony Burleson; brothers, Dubert Burleson and Hulbert "Red" Burleson; sister, Chris Cooper; and son-in-law, R.C. King.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Lee Collum Burleson; sister, Jeanne Francis Burleson, of Hartselle; daughters, Donna King, of Russellville, Carole Britton and husband, Gene, of Bradenton, Fla., Andrea Palmer and husband, Jerry, of Tuscumbia; son, Monte Burleson, of Crystal River, Fla.; grandson, Aaron Burleson and wife, Cessna, of Muscle Shoals; grandchildren, Heather Clowers and husband, Jason, Holly Watkins and husband, Lee, Julie Hulsey and husband, Jason, Jennifer Mitchell and husband, Kevin, Bonnie Britton, Adam Britton, Jamie Britton, Zeke Britton, Laura Howell and husband, John Michael, Daniel Burleson; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Clint Busler officiating. Interment was in Hartselle City Cemetery with Bro. Gene Britton.
Pallbearers were Monte Burleson, Aaron Burleson, Adam Britton, Daniel Britton, Zeke Britton and great-nephew, Jason Lacks. Honorary pallbearers were nephews, Mark Tanner, Larry Minter, Grad Tanner, and close friends, Donnie Epperson, Grady Liles, Howard Grant, Curtis Grissom and Lanny Yancey.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the caring staff of Russellville Health Care and special caregiver Faye Baker.
James Seahorn

James R. Seahorn, 62, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Audie Mae Seahorn, brothers Billy and Gene Seahorn and sister Annie Lee Fisher.
He is survived by his wife Peggy Head Seahorn; son, Byron Seahorn and his wife, Tara, of Pinson; sisters, Marie Donald of Tupelo, Miss., and Susie Willis of Russellville; grandsons whom he loved dearly, Cameron and Perry Seahorn of Pinson.
Mr. Seahorn worked a number of years as a salesman for Joslyn Corp. Birmingham – Atlanta. He currently worked for Glasforms, Birmingham. He loved life, his Savior Jesus and his family at Hopewell Baptist Church, Pinson where he was a member. Visitation was Tuesday March 31, 2009 at Ridout's Trussville Chapel. Funeral services will be Wednesday April 1, 2009 at Ridout's Trussville Chapel with Pastor Billy Evans officiating. Interment will follow in Hopewell Cemetery.

Sharon Ann Duncan, 59, of Phil Campbell, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Russellville Hospital.
Mrs. Duncan was a native of West Virginia, but had lived in this area for over 30 years. She was a member of Siloam Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel with Roger Bonds officiating.
Burial will follow in Hyde Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Survivors include children, Tommy Duncan and wife, Jennifer, of Phil Campbell; Sandra Goins and husband, Ronnie, of Littleville; Troy Duncan, of Tremont, Miss.; Freddy Duncan and wife, Nikki, of Phil Campbell; special granddaughter, Jennifer Duncan; brother, Don, of Tomblin, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Ardena Tomblin; an infant brother, mother-in-law and Dorothy Johnson.
