Bobcats roll past Cold Springs 27-14

PHIL CAMPBELL — The game might not have started the way Phil Campbell fans would have wanted, but the end result is exactly what they were hoping for as their Bobcats beat Cold Springs 27-14 in the first game at Parrish Stadium since the tornado in April damaged the facility.

Cold Springs opened an early lead with a 53-yard touchdown pass less than five minutes into the game, but Phil Campbell answered moments later when Craig Saint caught a 35-yard pass from Tyson Sumerel to give the Bobcats a first-and-goal from the 1-yard line. Saint carried the ball into the end zone on the ensuing play to tie the game 7-7.

Cold Springs answered with a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Phil Campbell tied the game before halftime with a 6-yard pass from Sumerel to Colton Vickery.

Neither team scored in the third period, but Phil Campbell made a pair of stops in its own territory including forcing a turnover on downs at the Bobcat 7-yard line.

Sumerel threw a pair of touchdown passes to Jamie Dorroh in the fourth quarter. One was a 35-yard strike and the other was a 70-yard strike.

Dorroh finished the game with eight catches for 205 yards while Sumerel completed 15-of-23 passes for 174 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. The Phil Campbell defense played well, allowing Cold Springs 149 yards of total offense.

Phil Campbell will host Colbert Heights Friday to open region play.
