    Former teacher, beautician, merchant
QUITMAN Services for Sarah Lucille Jones Clark will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Wright's Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Richard Cothern officiating. Burial will be in Enterprise Cemetery in Enterprise.
Mrs. Clark, born July 7, 1907, of Enterprise, died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital. She was a life member of the Enterprise Baptist Church, a former teacher, beautician, merchant and a gentle Southern Lady. A real daughter of the Confederacy, she was a member of the Robert E. Lee Chapter 2561 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Meridian.
Survivors include six nieces and nephews, Janette J. Hudson of Shubuta, Ethelbert Barksdale Jones Jr. of Bremen, Ala., Albert Cecil Jones Jr. of Lincoln, Ala., Marjorie W. Kaley of Siluria, Ala., Evelyn McDowell of Montgomery, Ala., Sara Lee Johnston of Enterprise; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. She also leaves a host of former students her children. Upon hearing of her death, one wrote: "And so my birthday cards will cease and that will signal the end of many years of small reminders that held significant sway in the life of a little country boy's vision of self. The most precious of all memories is the old "pot belly stove" stoked with coal and her placing the non-existent word can't' printed neatly on paper into the furnace and turning to her class and saying: I do not want to hear anyone ever use the word that we just destroyed.' And so her legacy goes, pinned to the lives of many who passed by the warmth of her spirit. This was not the only advice given by a teacher with heart, but it was the foundation of the spirit and character that she instilled in the many that passed through her classroom door. I shall miss the cards and the kind words of undeserved praise that has pushed me along all these years, but I shall not miss the spirit that always accompanied them, simply because it shall remain attached to my heart, a heart that for the moments aches with its loss. Please if this arrives in time say these words to her so that she in her final hour of need, knows that God' has spoken through her many times in her time. My undying love for you Miss Lucille,' a student of no small chance."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hallet A. Clark; her parents, Alexander Covington Jones and Addie Mae Estes Jones; her brothers, Ethelbert Barksdale Jones, Albert Cecil Jones Sr. and Ira Vardaman Jones; and a sister, Jessie Lee Johnston.
The family requests memorials be made to the building funds of Enterprise Baptist Church, 400 River Road, Enterprise MS 39330 or the Enterprise Methodist Church, 217 Bridge St., Enterprise MS 39330.
Visitation will be Sunday from noon until services at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Lamar Moore, Jim Otho Stockman, Matthew McPhearson, John McPhearson, E.B. Jones Jr., A.C. Jones Jr., Dr. Thomas F. Hudson III and R.C. Goodin. Honorary pallbearers include Irby Robinson, Jack Frost, Joe Crumbley, E.Q. McPhearson Jr., Harry Heber and John Bigelow.
