RED BAY- The City of Red Bay is getting ready to move into their new offices as moving day has been scheduled for July 16.
The new city hall was supposed to be done by the end of June, but construction delays have caused the move to be delayed as well.
"They are installing the electrical wiring and everything now," Mayor Jeff Reid said. "They have to be done by July 13 because we are moving in on July 16."
The builder, Burton Builders, will be charged $100 each day they go over the contract, which stated that the project would be completed within six months of groundbreaking. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new city hall was held on Dec. 27, 2006, and the original move in date was scheduled for July 1, Reid said.
The new city hall is not the only ongoing building project in Red Bay. The new police department, which will be located at the old city hall site across the street from the Senior Citizen's building,
"We are scheduled to be in the new police department by September," Police Chief Pat Creel said.
Reid said that he felt like the new police station would be ready on time, and that they are not expecting any delays on the police station.
The old city hall and police station burned in May 2006 when a squirrel caused problems with the power lines, which resulted with the city hall catching on fire, Reid said.
