A Georgia man was being treated Thursday at University Medical Center in Jackson after his 1989 Harley Davidson motorcycle ran off Interstate 20/59 near Toomsuba and crashed in the median.
Edgar R. Nickle, 65, of Mableton, Ga., received serious injuries in the accident that occurred in the west-bound lane of the interstate. He initially was sent to Rush Foundation Hospital; he later was airlifted to UMC.
Nickle was listed in stable condition Thursday night at UMC. Bob and Karen Sweat, a Birmingham, Ala., couple on their way to Philadelphia, Miss., stopped to help Nickle. Karen, a registered nurse, said that Nickle was unconscious immediately after the accident.
The Sweats said it appeared that Nickle's motorcycle went out of control after it dropped off of the shoulder of the road.
The Toomsuba Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident along with Trooper Jim Richards of the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
