Vina faces shutout in opener

The Vina Red Devils struggled in their opening game under new head coach Jason Harris. The Red Devils were shutout 48-0 by the Mars Hill Panthers.
Vina managed 35 yards of total offense, as Mars Hill’s veteran line controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
It was hard for Harris to find many positives in the loss, but he did find some learning opportunities for his team.
“The biggest positive I saw was that we made no turnovers and very few penalties,” said Harris. “We just need to learn how to handle adversity a little bit better and be tougher on both sides of the football. We are very, young so we are still learning. Our guys are learning how to play, and we are learning what guys can do in certain positions.
“We need to move some personnel around to be more competitive.”
Austin Harper registered several solo tackles from the outside linebacker position.
Vina will host Brilliant this week in their home opener.
