Red Bay football team defeats Belmont

Red Bay defeated Belmont Friday night. The game featured the return of a former coach, Michael Jackson, who coached the Red Bay Tigers for several years, returning to Red Bay during Friday’s game as Belmont’s head coach.

Jackson and current Red Bay coach Heath Childers are very similar in style, focusing on strong, physical teams with defense first and run-heavy offenses. Friday night’s matchup resulted in Red Bay holding off Belmont 14-6.

After a Red Bay score on the opening drive of the game, it was all defense until the fourth quarter.

The Tigers scored on an opening drive ending with a one-yard run by Jaxon Vinson to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead.

The score held steady until Belmont scored early in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 6-6.

The Tigers responded with a drive of their own, ending in an eight-yard touchdown run by Keeton Lanphear. The Tigers added on a two-point conversion run by Cody Carnes to give Red Bay a 14-6 lead midway through the fourth quarter.

Lanphear and Will West led the Red Bay defense with 13 and 12 tackles each. Carnes added nine tackles. Carnes also led the way on offense with 80 yards.

Red Bay travels to Hackleburg Friday night.
