By Brannon King for the FCT

For many summer is the time for youth sports camps, and Russellville City Schools has young athletes covered with two upcoming opportunities.

Kicking Camp

Young football kickers, punters and long snappers will get an opportunity to improve their special teams skills at the Shoals Kicking Camp June 30 at Russellville High School.

The campers will receive instruction from camp director Mike King, owner and operator of Shoals Kicking Development, in which he conducts camps and gives private and group lessons around the Southeast. In all he has more than 30 years of coaching experience. The one-day camp will be from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., and the cost will be $125 per camper. If three or more campers register from the same school, the cost will be $75 per camper. For more details visit, shoalskicking.org.

Baseball Camp

The 2017 Golden Tigers Summer Baseball Camp will be held June 19-20 from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the RHS Baseball Stadium and RMS Gym.

Campers will receive instruction from RHS head coach Chris Heaps, assistant coaches of the three-time defending state champion Golden Tigers along with former and current Russellville High School players. The camp will focus on pitching mechanics/drills, throwing fundamentals, hitting mechanics/drills, infield play by position, fly balls/outfield play, baserunning/sliding and speed/agility/quickness.
