Red Bay joins ALPALS
Red Bay’s recently-established Beautification Committee is working to clean up the city, and one action in that direction was approved by the Red Bay City Council last week – becoming a member of Alabama PALS.
Alabama PALS, or People Against a Littered State, was organized in 1987 “to create a litter-free Alabama.” Membership fees provide funding for clean-up supplies and resources.
Red Bay has been part of ALPALS in the past, Mayor Charlene Fancher said.
“I think this is a good thing, that we get back in the PALS program,” Fancher said. “I stand behind the Beautification Committee in joining the PALS.” The rest of the city council stood behind the committee as well, voting unanimously to join the PALS at the $100 membership level.
The Beautification Committee was established in December 2016 with unanimous vote from the Red Bay City Council, in a move Fancher said was consistent with her campaign promises as she ran for mayor. The committee has spots for five members and works closely with building official Dean Hubbard to improve cleanliness and aesthetics in Red Bay. Current members include Scotty Kennedy, Pat Nelson and Jeri Mayo.
