RHS qualifies for state cross country

The RHS Girls Cross Country team has qualified for the AHSAA State Championship Meet the past two years, since the sport was established at RHS in 2014. This year will be no different, as the girls team and several individual boys qualified to compete at the Oakville Indian Mounds, just east of Moulton, Saturday beginning at 8 a.m.

At the sectional meet Nov. 3 RHS posted a strong showing. Following are the runners, their places and times:

Girls

Naydelin Romero-Momentey, 21:47.51, fifth place

Sofia Bahena, 24:01.29, 19th place

Cecilia Juan, 24:58.68, 25th place

Katie Skidmore, 25:48.99, 31st place

Haylee Hamilton, 26:02.23, 32nd place

Maria Bahena, 26:54.63, 41st place

Katherine Peacock, 30:05.92, 52nd place

2-Daniel Montiel, Justin Howard and Charlie Felix will also compete at the state meet.

Boys

Daniel Montiel, 18:10.33, fourth place

Justin Howard, 19:23.49, 17th place

Charlie Felix, 19:25.72, 18th place

Romero-Momentey, Coach Kevin England said, has four Top Five finishes this year, highlighted by her win at the Helena Invitational last month.

Montiel, who had one Top Five finish and three Top Ten finishes this season, qualifies for the AHSAA XC State Championship Meet for the second year in a row. He finished 34th at the state meet last year.
