Team camp tests RHS’ baseball skills
The RHS Golden Tigers varsity baseball team just returned from three days of team camp at the University of Alabama Birmingham – three days that challenged the athletes in more ways than one.
“We did a lot of drills and fundamental work to help us grow together as a team and as individual players,” Coach Chris Heaps said. “It was a very stressful week on our team, as many are young and inexperienced at the varsity level.”
The workload, Heaps said, was “very rigorous, but our players handled well the adversity of the heat and the heavy workload and three days of playing games against very good competition.” The Golden Tigers took on Sparkman, Athens and Guntersville high schools.
“It was a good experience as we gained lots of knowledge, and it tested our guys mentally as well,” Heaps said. He said the coaches at UAB “did an outstanding job putting the camp on. UAB is a great place for a young baseball player to learn to be a better player and a better man.”
