    Franklin County students receive NW-SCC scholarships

    Numerous local students of the Class of 2016 have been named scholarship recipients by Northwest-Shoals Community College.

    • Leah Jordan Gunderman, of Tuscumbia, received an academic scholarship and a Mattie Lou Gist Memorial-Foundation Scholarship from Northwest-Shoals Community College. Gunderman is the daughter of Amy and Gary Gunderman and the grandchild of Maj. Gen. George Gunderman and Anna Gunderman and Gary and Charlotte Dolan. While at NW-SCC, she will pursue a degree in pre-medical.
    • Andrew Preston Guinn, of Russellville, received an academic scholarship from Northwest-Shoals Community College. A graduate from Russellville High School, Guinn was a member of NHS, Franklin County Junior Leadership, CSU, Key Club, Mu Alpha Theta and Math Club. He is the son of Tim and Sandra Guinn and the grandchild of Foy and Faye Guinn, Shirley Scott and Hugh Scott. While at NW-SCC, he will pursue a degree in pharmacy.
    • Debbie Gomez, of Russellville, received an academic scholarship from Northwest-Shoals Community College. A graduate from Tharptown High School, Gomez was a member of basketball, cheerleading, track, softball and volleyball teams, Jobs for Alabama’s Graduates, SADD, Junior Civitan, Student Council, 4-H, FBLA, Yearbook, Fellowhip of Christian Athletes, senior class president and Spanish Club. She is the daughter of Minerva Mayen and Moses Gomez and the grandchild of Consuelo and Floriencio Mayen and Guadalupe and Moses Gomez. While at NW-SCC, she will pursue a degree in business administration.
    • Callie Woods, of Russellville, received an academic scholarship from Northwest-Shoals Community College. A graduate from Russellville High School, Woods was a member of the Marching Hundred Colorguard, HOSA, NHS, FBLA, FCCLA, SADD and Franklin County Junior Leadership. She is the daughter of Ryan and Becky Woods and the grandchild of James and Brenda Stone and the late Johnny and Margaret Corbell. While at NW-SCC, she will pursue a degree in nursing.
    • Lane Yancey, of Russellville, received an academic scholarship from Northwest-Shoals Community College. A graduate from Phil Campbell High School, Yancey was a member of Spotlight Student, NHS, FFA, SADD, Forestry Team and Prom Committee. He is the son of Roy and Tammy McCleese and the grandchild of Roy and Theresa McCleese and Keith and Minnie Barton. While at NW-SCC, he will pursue a degree in veterinary medicine.
    • Lily Holt, of Russellville, received an ambassador scholarship from Northwest-Shoals Community College. A graduate from Russellville High School, Holt was a member of NHS, Franklin County Junior Leadership, varsity softball, CSU, SADD and Mu Alpha Theta. She is the daughter of Tammy Holt and Randall Holt and the grandchild of Joe and Barbara Lindsey and the late David Aycock and Crystal Wilkerson.
    • Luke Andrew Stanford, of Vina, received a College Bowl Scholarship from Northwest-Shoals Community College. A graduate from Red Bay High School, Stanford was a member of FFA, String Band, HOSA, SADD, Beta, Robotics Team and class president. He is the son of Jennifer and Brain Pace and Chris and Mandy Stanford and the grandchild of Danny and Regina Barrett, Chris and Faye Benson, Thomas and Lourie Stanford and Barry and Dianne Pace. While at NW-SCC, he will pursue a degree in psychiatry.
    • Blanca Gonzales received an applied techonogly scholarship from Northwest-Shoals Community College. A graduate from Tharptown High School, Gonzalez was a member of SADD, Student Council, Skills USA, 4-H and cheerleading. She is the daughter of Paulina Gonzales and Luis Aguirre and the grandchild of Petrona Fernandez and Tomas Aguirre. While at NW-SCC, she will pursue a degree in cosmetology.
    • Brooklyn Malorie Bolton, of Red Bay, received an academic scholarship from Northwest-Shoals Community College. A graduate from Red Bay High School, Bolton was a member of FBLA, SADD, Beta Club, FCA, English Club and Spanish Club. She is the daughter of Brad and Julie Bolton and the grandchild of Billy and Judy Bolton and Gary and Charlotte Dolan. While at NW-SCC, she will pursue a degree in business management.
    • Tania Betancourt, of Russellville, received an applied techonogly scholarship from Northwest-Shoals Community College. A graduate from Russellville High School, Betancourt was a member of Franklin County Junior Leadership Program and a Student Council representative. She is the daughter of Gladis Figueroa and Marbelio Betancourt. While at NW-SCC, she will pursue a degree in business.
    • Maggie Williams, of Russellville, received an ambassador scholarship from Northwest-Shoals Community College. A graduate from Russellville High School, Williams was a member of Student Council (secretary), SADD, FBLA, HOSA, CSU, NHS and Mu Alpha Theta and was class president. She is the daughter of Kevin and Gia Kiel and the grandchild of Daniel and Anita William, Kenneth and Barbara Clement and Gerald and Betty Kiel. While at NW-SCC, she will pursue a degree in apparel design and product management.
    • Ash Hatton received an applied techonogly scholarship from Northwest-Shoals Community College. A graduate from Tharptown High School, Hatton was a member of the football team and Welding Club. He is the son of Laura Clower Mirando and the late Waymon D. Hatton and the grandchild of Douglas L. Hatton and Linda Hatton. While at NW-SCC, he will pursue a degree in welding.

    More student scholarship winners will be featured in upcoming editions of the Franklin County Times.
