For 28 years Lee Fryery made his living battling blazes as a member of the Meridian Fire Department. Now Fryery says he wants to fight for the city as a councilman.
On Monday, Fryery filed initial paperwork to run as an Independent candidate for City Council from Ward 3.
Fryery, 67, retired from the MFD in 1990 as an assistant chief and then worked as a Mississippi deputy fire marshal until 1995. Since 1995 Fryery has been working as a private fire investigator.
Fryery said as a council member he would work hard to secure more industry and jobs for Meridian.
According to Fryery, a more intense effort needs to be put forth by the council in order to attract commerce and industry into Meridian. Fryery said with the tremendous opportunities that exist with Nissan coming to Canton there is a lot of growth potential for Meridian in the next few years.
