Gregory Wade “Shug” Wilson, 55, Phil Campbell, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Russellville Hospital.
He was born on July 12, 1959 to Billy and Joan Wilson. He was raised and lived most all his life in Phil Campbell, where he graduated high school. He then attended Technical School in Hamilton where he received his trade as Pipe-Fitter/Welder. He worked many years as a pipe-fitter/welder at several different plants, but mostly Brown’s Ferry, through the pipe fitters Local Union in Florence. He had many friends who knew him as Shug, and was liked by everyone who knew him because of his friendliness to all, his carefree spirit, and great personality.
The visitation was Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Spry Memorial Chapel. A graveside service was Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Phil Campbell City Cemetery. Speakers at the service were Corey Flanagan and Randy Ergle.
He is survived by his mother, Joan Murphy Wilson; his father, Billy Charles Wilson, of Phil Campbell; a brother, Robin Wilson and girlfriend, Linda Butcher; a sister, Janna Wilson Flanagan; a nephew, Corey Flanagan and wife, Lauren, their three week old son, Greg’s great-nephew, Cooper Neal Flanagan, of Tuscumbia; a niece, Mollie Flanagan, of Tuscumbia; and a host of friends.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Arthur and Loretta Murphy; and Cleve and Liddie Wilson,
The pallbearers were Tommy Sherrill, Mark “Yogi” Welborn, Clay Herring, Brian Stancil, Jerome Morgan, and Scott “Torino” Smith. The honorary pallbearers were Mike Murphy, Darin Murphy, Josh Benford, and Jeff Robinson.
The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Dr. Morrow, Dr. Ryan, the ICU nurses, for all the special care and love and were so good to him. The family would also like to thank everyone for all their calls, food, and being such good friends to Greg and the family.
