Red Bay Envirothon team wins state
A team of students from Red Bay High School participated in the Alabama Envirothon State Competition this past April at the Alabama 4-H Center in Columbiana.
The Red Bay team won first place in this state-wide competition edging out Bob Jones by one point.
Members of the team included Jordan Turbyfill, Barry Reach, Kyle Fuller, Morgan Lafnear, Lakin Patterson and alternate, Kennadie Rooker. Their advisors were Leah Torisky and Jarod Massey.
Envirothon is sponsored by Legacy, Inc., RC&D Councils, Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Alabama Department of Environmental Management, NRCS and Canon, Inc.
Envirothon educates students in current real-life environmental issues, incorporating concerns for soils, aquatics, wildlife, forestry and a current issue which changes annually.
It combines in-class curriculum with hands-on field experiences which enhances a student’s critical thinking and problem solving skills and prepares them to be role models and leaders in their school and community.
