Russellville softball senior pitcher Rachel Hunter signed a softball scholarship with Snead State Community College in Boaz last Wednesday.
Hunter has been a leader on the Golden Tiger softball team as a pitcher and at the plate. This season she is batting .390 with 15 RBIs and four home runs.
“Rachel is real leader for our team,” said Russellville coach John Smith. “She is a hard worker and loves the game. Her leadership and enthusiasm is infectious and has rubbed off on her teammates.
“We are very proud of Rachel. It’s always rewarding when you see a player get an opportunity to play at the next level and get to continue their education. She will make the Golden Tigers proud.”
Hunter said she is excited about the opportunity to get to continue her education and play the sport she loves at the junior college level.
“I have always dreamed of pitching at the next level,” Hunter said. “After a lot of the doubt and negativity, I still strived to reach my goal. I could not have done it without the people who believed in me the most.
Hunter said even though she is excited about her scholarship, she is still focused on the Lady Tigers’ current season.
“My journey is not over,” she said. “I still have to maintain the same attitude and work ethic that I have about the game to keep progressing.”
