The Belgreen Lady Bulldogs’ hopes of advancing to the regional tournament at Wallace-Hanceville were dashed early on by the hot-shooting Covenant Christian Eagles Friday afternoon.
Covenant Christian outscored Belgreen 25-9 in the first quarter of the game and never could recover, with the Lady Eagles beating the Lady Bulldogs by a score of 69-29.
The Eagles perimeter defense didn’t allow the Bulldogs many good shots early in the game. They also were able to frustrate Belgreen’s inside game.
The Eagles extended their lead in the second quarter and went into the locker room at halftime in a comfortable position, 42-14.
“I am proud of the way our girls played this year,” said Belgreen coach Ritchie Hester. “Things didn’t go our way today. They have a really good team.”
Lexie Bragwell led Belgreen with 11 points. Others scoring for the Bulldogs were Allyson Bragwell (6), Alex Miller (5), Abby Hester (3), Laken Bragwell (2), and Nicole Borden (2).
