City man pleads guilty in sex abuse case, must register

A local man accused of sexually abusing a young girl on and off for two years pleaded guilty to sexual abuse charges Friday, courthouse officials said.
Jeramey Mickael Sartin, 36, 1631 Waterloo Rd., Russellville, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree sexual abuse-forcible compulsion of a child, and received a sentence of 28 months in jail for one count and 10 years suspended with five years probation for the second count, Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said.
Rushing said Sartin will also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
“After consulting with the victim in the case and her family, the main thing they wanted was for Sartin to have to register as a sex offender for the duration of his life, so we are glad that this was one of the conditions of the plea agreement,” Rushing said.
According to court records, Sartin was originally indicted in January 2012 on four counts of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old.
According to reports, the victim was an 11-year-old female who told school officials in October 2011 that Sartin had been abusing her for the past two years.
Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said school officials contacted the Department of Human Resources who contacted law enforcement officials.
Hargett said after investigators met with the victim and DHR workers, Sartin was brought in for questioning where he allegedly admitted to part of the allegations.
