Vina blanks Belgreen at home

J.R. Tidwell/FCT Brody Roberts (32) of Vina throws a pitch against Belgreen Monday evening at home.

VINA — Most of Franklin County’s games were rained out Monday evening, but Vina and Belgreen managed to get in a short game.

The game was not shortened by rain, but by Vina 10-run ruling Belgreen in the fifth inning. The Red Devils picked up a 10-0 win over their area and county rivals.

“We played good for two innings,” Belgreen head coach Kenny Lindsey said. “Then we had a lot of errors. If we didn’t have those it would be a 2-0 ballgame. We have to work on minimizing mistakes.”

Brody Roberts was the winning pitcher for Vina. He pitched all five innings and gave up only two hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks.

“We played OK today,” Vina head coach Greg Hamilton said.

“We hit a lot of balls at them. We’ve pitched pretty well this season.”

Nick Schmittou and Taylor Hamilton went two for four with two RBIs and two runs scored apiece.

Ethan Pharr had one hit and one RBI, and Cody Renfrow went 1-1 with two walks and two runs scored.

The win puts the Red Devils at 12-3 on the season. The loss was the first for Belgreen, which now has a record of 4-1.
