PCHS loses to Decatur Heritage

Decatur Heritage handed Phil Campbell one of its worst losses of the season in a 71-35 rout on Friday night in the Hatton Christmas Tournament.

The Bobcats could not get their 3-point shots to fall most of the night, and Decatur Heritage won the rebound battle to keep the ball away from its opponent.

“We did not want to play tonight,” Phil Campbell head coach Will Copeland said. “Today was a wasted day.”

Decatur Heritage had jumped out to an 18-8 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Phil Campbell did not score a point in the second quarter until Jamie Dorroh hit a free throw with 4:27 remaining in the half.

The Bobcats could not get 3’s to drop, but they began missing lay-ups as well near the end of the second.

Decatur Heritage took a 37-13 lead into halftime after holding Phil Campbell to only 5 points in the second.

Things did not turn around for the Bobcats for the rest of the game, as Decatur Heritage outscored them 34-22 in the second half.

“I can yell, fuss, be nice or whatever to the players, but sometimes kids don’t want to do it and the other team does,” Copeland said.

He said this after not going into the locker room at halftime until the team was about to leave for second half warm-ups.

“You have to do the right thing even if someone’s not yelling at you,” Copeland said.

Dorroh and Colton Vickery led the Bobcats with 8 points each. Jeremy Reed and Ben Stancil had 6 points apiece, Cameron Harris had 5 and Skeeter Benford had 2.
