The 14th Annual Mississippi State Mixed Tournament will conclude its three week run this weekend at Dixie Bowl Lanes. Entries for the second weekend were up considerably over week one, both from local bowlers and from around the state. After the first week, Meridian bowlers held down the top spot in both the Team and Doubles events. The foursome of C.O. Gray, Shine Gray, Bob Timms and Lou Timms were tops in the Team event while the duo of Kim Shirley and Stan Bottorff led Doubles. Senior ABC bowlers are reminded that the closing date for entries into the 22nd Annual Seniors Bowling Tournament is midnight, Friday, November 15. A little quick math will tell you that is only three days away so don't delay.
Congratulations to local junior bowler Josh Coleman, who recently took home the First Place trophy in the Classic Division of the Southern Scratch Junior Bowling Association tournament at Paradise Lanes in Jackson. After copping the final qualifying spot Saturday, the 15-year-old was able to work through the field during match play Sunday to defeat some of the top bowlers in his division from across the southeast. Keep up the good work, Josh!
In local league action, Johnnie Blackmon led the way in both the game and series areas with a 279/701 effort. Mike Cothern checked in with a 277 while Bob Davis added a 275. Speaking of Bob, he and his four teammates on the Medical Towers Optical team in Thursday night's Queen City league were the "victims" of a rare feat when, after they combined for an outstanding 1220 game, only to find themselves losing the game by 46 pins in a scoring onslaught by the J.D. Auto Sales team. Talk about poor timing! Congratulations to Albert Edmonds who recorded his first career "7" with a 700 on the nose during action in Monday night's Hucklebuck league.
Pat James led the ladies last week with a 223 game/611 series while Jane Gibson took home the high game of the week with an impressive 252 effort. Other pin crushers for the women included Sharon Wade (233), Tina Dozier (227), Shelia Dearman (223) and Billie Coleman (222, 223). Last week's Bowerettes league Bowler of the Week honors went to Lou Timms.
