Red Bay rolls past PC in area tourney

HATTON — The Red Bay softball team got of to a good start in its quest to return to the Regional Softball Tournament with an 11-2 victory Tuesday against Phil Campbell in the Class 2A, Area 14 Tournament.
The Lady Tigers began the game with three runs in the top of the first inning and added three more runs in the third.
Red Bay pushed its lead to 8-0 in the fourth, but Phil Campbell broke up the shutout in the bottom of the inning as Amber Chaney and Jessie Halcomb scored.
The Lady Bobcats were unable to get any closer, but Red Bay added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning and another run in the seventh.
Hannah Sharp hit a three-run homer for the Lady Tigers and added a double, two singles and a pair of runs to lead Red Bay while Emily Cox hit three singles, doubled twice and scored a pair of runs.
Whitney Sharp doubled twice and scored twice while Lauren Pacetti singled twice and scored a pair of runs for the Lady Tigers.
Monique Dulaney singled and scored, Micala Dulaney added two singles, Mariah Horton singled and Holly Hammock scored twice for Red Bay.
Whitney Sharp earned the win for the Lady Tigers, pitching seven innings and striking out nine.
Chaney, Lindsey Jackson and Sarah Hilliard all singled for Phil Campbell while Halcomb reached base on an error.
Jackson took the loss for Phil Campbell, pitching seven innings and striking out six.
Phil Campbell fell to the losers’ bracket with the loss and played Cherokee Tuesday night, but that game concluded too late to be included in today’s edition of The Franklin County Times.
Red Bay will play the winner of the Mars Hill-Hatton game at 10 a.m. Thursday. The winner of that game will earn a berth in the championship game.
