Tea Party rallies showcase best of American values
Citizens of Franklin County had the opportunity to witness one of this country’s most prized values Thursday afternoon when the Tea Party movement held a rally at the Franklin County Courthouse.
Whether you agree with the movement’s message or oppose it, the fact the participants get to rally is part of what makes America great.
Following the elections in Iran last year, thousands of protesters were jailed after claiming the election was rigged.
Here in the United States, people got together and protested the government policies they did not like.
Did they go to jail for their view? No, they were exercising their Constitutionally protected freedom to express their political views.
Yes the Tea Party is a polarizing movement, but it offers a good civics lesson by showcasing what makes the United States a great country — we change things we don’t like with our voices, not through violence.
