Woman accused of stealing from

A Russellville woman faces multiple counts of forgery after allegedly taking money from the local volunteer firefighter’s association.

Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said Pam Taylor, 55, of 267 Russell Valley Road in Russellville, was charged with 27 counts of second-degree forgery and one count of first-degree theft of property after allegedly taking thousands of dollars from the Franklin County Volunteer Firefighter’s Association, where she served as treasurer.

“This is a case where the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the state auditor’s office worked because the allegations involved cigarette tax money issued from the state,” Rushing said.

Rushing said Taylor is accused of taking about $30,000 over a three-year period.

Taylor surrendered to police on April 13 after learning that a warrant had been issued for her arrest. She was later released on a $5,000 bond.

According to the Alabama Criminal Code, second-degree forgery is a  Class C felony, which carries a sentence of one to ten years in prison upon conviction, and first-degree theft of property is a Class B felony, which is punishable with two to 20 years in prison upon conviction.

Taylor’s arraignment has been scheduled for June 30.
