This is in response to Johnny Mack Morrow’s column from last week.
I agree one hundred percent with Mr. Morrow, the citizens of this state need to know who is backing the candidates running for office. If a politician is running for office wouldn’t it be nice to know who he is beholding to.
It seems that our beloved Senator Bedford is mighty cozy with the gambling interests in this state.
Those are some mighty mean people, we’ve already had one attorney general, Governor Patterson’s father, killed by the gambling people.
If we know who is spending money on what candidate or issue it will tell us a whole lot about what lies behind that particular person or issue.
Senators Bedford, Baron and others are currently blocking a bill, which would bar the federal government from forcing Alabamians in to having to buy health insurance.
Now it may not be worth the paper it is written on, however it does strengthen our attorney general’s will when he sues to prove the law to be unconstitutional.
It also helps our governor and neighboring states as it lets them know what the feelings are about the bill in the state of Alabama.
I believe this is the sixth term for Senator Bedford, to me that speaks volumes about why the state is in such financial trouble as well as this county.
Too much money has been spent buying votes with special projects.
The state is no different from an individual when it comes to spending. Spend too much and eventually you are broke.
