Smoke filled the sky as flames shot through a family’s tin roof located off of Alabama 24 Wednesday.
The home is located Yogi’s Chevron.
The residents of the home watched as their belongings were turned to ashes while Russellville and Belgreen firefighters rushed to the rescue trying to contain the blaze.
Officials said the house was already engulfed in flames when fire and rescue squads arrived on the scene around 5:15 p.m.
Russellville Fire Marshal Bobby Malone said the family was not home at the time of ignition.
The home was a rustic style home made out of lumber with a tin roof. It took firefighters almost an hour to get the fire under control.
Russellville Fire Chief Joe Mansell said these types of fires are difficult to contain.
Mansell said the home that set deep in the woods was far away from any source of water and that made it difficult as well. Belgreen Fire Department also arrived on the scene with their almost 5,000 gallon tank to help drowned the fire.
Since the fire occurred outside the city limits, State Fire Marshal Jimmy Collier was called to investigate. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
