Many communities across the nation turned out to donate blood after the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
That blood is now gone, and blood is need by area hospital patients suffering from cancer and heart disease. United Blood Service officials are asking the public to take time to donate and help assure there will be blood available whenever emergencies occur in our area.
Several local organizations will hold blood drives this weekend. They include:
Advance Auto Parts in Butler, Ala., will sponsor a blood drive today from noon-6 p.m. in the United Blood Services bloodmobile. The first 20 donors will receive American flags. All donors will receive a T-shirt, pizza coupon and hat.
The Meridian Civitan Club will sponsor a blood drive at the new Wal-Mart SuperCenter on Saturday from 8 a.m.-noon in the bloodmobile. Donors will receive the new football T-shirt and a pizza coupon.
The Suqualena Community Club will sponsor a community blood drive at Macedonia Baptist Church on Nov. 10, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Baptist Outreach Building.
