Montgomery competing in Junior Olympics

After signing with the University of West Alabama in the fall, Russellville senior volleyball player Cassie Montgomery spent the winter and spring playing volleyball for the Rocket City Volleyball Club 171 power team.
It was a good decision for Montgomery, as she not only kept her skills sharp for when she arrives in Livingston, but she also helped lead the squad to the Junior Olympics.
RCVC 171 won the Southern Region Volleyball Association Regional Championship to earn a bid to the USAV Junior Olympics National Championships.
The games will be held June 28 through July 1 in Miami and feature the top 48 teams in the nation that won regional tournaments or national qualifiers.
"I'm thrilled and honored to get to play on this team and compete against the very best high school volleyball players in the country," Montgomery said. "Winning the regional championship is such a huge accomplishment, and I think we will represent Russellville and Alabama well in Miami."
RCVC 171 went undefeated at the regional championship, winning seven straight matches – four in a five-hour span on the final day of the tournament.
RCVC 171 defeated the defending region champions from Atlanta in the semifinals by the slimmest of margins – 15-13 in the deciding set.
Montgomery, the Russellville career record holder in aces, rotated to serve with her team leading 14-13 and led the squad to victory.
A little more than an hour later, she served the championship point in the deciding set of the finals.
