Parole for Madden is denied
MONTGOMERY — Parole has been denied for the former Franklin County administrator who is serving 20 years in prison on two felony ethics law violations after taking more than $750,000 in county funds is up for parole this week, authorities said.
Crista Lynn Madden, 55, pleaded guilty in 2018 to the use of an official position for personal gain and use of equipment for personal gain.
The Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles denied parole following a March 26 hearing, according to the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles.
Madden has served 6 years, 9 months and 22 days of her 20-year sentence, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections. She is in the Birmingham Work Release Center.
Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said Madden took $753,889.51 from December 2007 until July 2017.
Madden was employed with Franklin County for 25 years, serving as county administrator from 2009 until her resignation to accept a similar position in Chilton County.
According to the attorney general’s office, in December 2007 Madden began a scheme by which she generated false records of checks and then made the originals payable to herself.
As a part of her plea agreement, Madden agreed to repay the money to the county, as well as to “never seek or accept employment or enter into any relationship, contractual or otherwise, with a governmental agency” in the state.
