Poores’ parole request denied

MONTGOMERY – Parole has been denied for a man serving a 20-year sentence on assault, burglary and theft convictions associated with an incident in Red Bay, authorities said. The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles rejected the parole request from Charles Colman Poores, according to Jakiya Dudley, media specialist for the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles.

Poores, 36, has served 11 years, 2 months and 10 days of a 20-year sentence, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

Those terms include 61/2 years for first-degree attempted assault and 20 years each for third-degree burglary and first-degree theft of property, according to corrections records.

The sentences are being served concurrently for a total of 20 years.

He is in the Easterling Correctional Center, according to the corrections department.

Poores was arrested on July 2, 2019, and charged with five counts of firstdegree assault, according to court records.

According to a Red Bay Police Department complaint, his arrest occurred after he drove “through a road closed sign at a high rate of speed narrowly missing construction workers” at a construction site in Red Bay, court records state.

He pleaded guilty to one count in an agreement that dismissed the other four counts, according to records.
