My Thoughts – Bart Moss
It was a rough weekend for folks in and around Franklin County. Very high winds raced through Franklin County, including an EF-2 tornado, leaving homes damaged, trees downed, and many without power. Pray for those whose homes were affected.
The chances of a tornado hitting anyone’s home is very low, but when it hits yours, it is a disaster. When events like this happen, friends and neighbors rise to the occasion and help. This was one of those occasions that brought out the best of Franklin Countians …
It wouldn’t be Alabama weather if we didn’t have severe storms and snow within 24 hours of each other, and such was the case. More snow and ice could be on the way midweek …
Meteorology. I’ve never understood why that term was associated with weather. I had to go to Google and ask why. And, of course, Google had an answer: “Because the word originates from the Greek work ‘meteoron’ meaning ‘a thing high up in the air.’ OK …

Baseball and softball seasons will begin for teams in the county this week. The cold weather returned just in time …
Auburn beat Alabama in the historic No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup in Tuscaloosa. Auburn never trailed. The game was tied once. Auburn opened a quick lead and answered every Alabama run, which were few and far between. Going in, I thought Auburn’s defense would be the difference. It was.
Mark Sears was a non-factor. Auburn contested almost every three-point shot Alabama took, and it worked. The difference between college basketball and college football is these two will meet at least one more time, possibly more …
While we are on the topic … there is no Iron Bowl of basketball. Or Iron Bowl of baseball. And, no, there is no Iron Bowl of football. There is no Iron Bowl, period. The Iron Bowl ended in 1998 when the two teams played their final matchup in Birmingham. When Pat Dye forced the game to the Auburn campus in 1988, that effectively ended the Iron Bowl. Alabama was a little late to the party moving the game to its campus … Have a great week!
