Students start their Super Citizen journey

RUSSELLVILLE — Second graders from West Elementary and third graders from Russellville Elementary recently began their Super Citizen journey with the Liberty Learning Foundation’s program focusing on civic responsibility, financial literacy, character development and career exploration.

“This program is designed to educate our students on what it takes to be a good citizen while also providing some background on the Statue of Liberty,” said West Elementary Principal Alicia Stanford. “Through recognition ceremonies, character, education, activities and opportunities for service, this program encourages all students to strive for excellence in both their academic and personal lives.”

Stanford said the program recognizes members of the community who “exemplify outstanding citizenship” by demonstrating kindness, leadership and a commitment to making a positive impact on those around them and their community.

“Each recipient is chosen by a class at West Elementary/Russellville Elementary,” Stanford said. “Together, by partnering with the Liberty Learning Foundation, we aim to foster a school environment where every student feels empowered to be a role model and a great citizen.”

Russellville Elementary Principal Tiffany Warhurst said the program helps “foster a better understanding of citizenship, responsibility and patriotism in our students.”
