Golden Tigers get area basketball wins as regular season continues

The Russellville varsity basketball teams continued the regular season with a group of games that included area matchups as the action heats up on the court. BOYS Russellville 67, Lawrence County 66 The Golden Tigers traveled to Lawrence County and picked up a big area win. RHS outscored the Red Devils 21-14 in the final quarter.

EJ King led Russellville with 32 points. Sir Williams added 10 for the Golden Tigers while Jah Williams had 8 points. Rylan Pratt and Daniel Aycock scored 6 points each, Cam Phinizee added 4, and Parker Odom rounded out the scoring with 1 point.

Russellville 68, West Point 65

Russellville improved to 3-0 in area play with a win at West Point. The Golden Tigers sit atop the area standings.

EJ King was top scorer with 33 points. Malaki Groce followed with 13 and Jah Williams scored 12. Cam Phinizee added 7 and Parker Odom finished the game with 3 points.

Russellville 93, Hamilton 82

Class 5A Russellville hosted 4A Hamilton on Jan. 18 and defeated the Aggies in a high-scoring contest.

The Golden Tigers held a 48-46 advantage at the half and led 70-61 after three quarters.

EJ King scored 44 points to lead RHS. Cam PhinizeeandJahWilliams had 14 points each and Rylan Pratt scored 6. Sir Williams, Daniel Aycock and Parker Odom had 4 points each and Malaki Groce had 3 points.

GIRLS

Russellville 59, Lawrence County 49

Russellville went to LCHS and earned an area victory over the Lady Devils. RHS led 26-19 at the half and 38-34 after three quarters of the contest.

Angeleah Smith led the Lady Golden Tigers with 23 points. Ella Copeland scored 17 for Russellville and Alexia Groce added 8 points. Sadie Odom scored 5, Bella Malone had 3, Laila Hill added 2 and Jemma Moore had 1 point.

West Point 64, Russellville 36

RHS fell to 1-2 in area play with a road loss to West Point. The Lady Warriors led 21-6 after the first quarter and had a 41-15 advantage at the half.

Ella Copeland led RHS with 18 points and Laila Hill scored 10. Angeleah Smith and Samantha Wilson had 3 points each and Alexia Groce added 2 for Russellville.

Russellville 65, Hamilton 36

The Lady Golden Tigers got a home win over Hamilton to improve to 7-11 on the season. RHS led 33-18 at the half and 51-28 after three quarters.

Russellville’s Laila Hill had 17 points and 13 rebounds while Ella Copeland added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Angeleah Smith also scored 14 for RHS and Jemma Moore added 8. Alexia Groce scored 7 and Bella Malone added 5 points.
