Belgreen varsity girls capture second-straight Franklin County title

The Belgreen Lady Bulldogs have cemented their reign atop Franklin County girls basketball, securing their second consecutive tournament championship with a decisive 51-28 victory over the Phil Campbell Bobcats.

Belgreen’s suffocating defense proved to be the key to their triumph.

While Phil Campbell managed to put up 12 points in the opening frame, Belgreen’s defense clamped down from that point forward, allowing the Bobcats just 16 points for the remainder of the game.

Belgreen held a narrow 15-12 lead after the first quarter, but then exploded in the second, outscoring Phil Campbell by a commanding 17-3 margin. This dominant second quarter gave Belgreen a comfortable cushion heading into halftime.

The second half saw Belgreen continue to control the game, outscoring the Bobcats 19-13.

Bryn Scott led the scoring charge for Belgreen with 14 points, while Lillianna Willingham added 10. Isabella Tate and Dacota Green each contributed 6 points, followed by Makenna Fisher with 5. Lily Green and Mackinley Hogan each chipped in with 3 points, and Alayna Tate and Carson Hovater rounded out the scoring with 2 points apiece.

For Phil Campbell, Macy Hardy led the way with 13 points. Sidda Rogers added 6, Mia Ambrosio scored 4, Leela Baker contributed 3, and Kaylie Motes finished with 2.

Semifinals: Phil Campbell 64, Vina 30 The Phil Campbell Bobcats had no problems in their semifinal tournament game soundly beating Vina 64-30. The Bobcats led the Red Devils 39-20 at halftime.

Macy Hardy led Phil Campbell with 18 points followed by Leela Baker with 10 points.

Mackenzie Elrod and Claire McCarley led Vina with 9 points each.

Semifinals:

Belgreen 62, Red Bay 18

Belgreen dominated Red Bay to advance to the semifinals of the tournament winning 62-18. Belgreen opened up a 24-7 lead at halftime on the way to the win.

Isabella Tate and Kiera Smith led Belgreen with 11 points each.

Gracie Edgmon led Red Bay with 8 points.

Quarterfinals: Red Bay 28, Tharptown 13 The Red Bay Tigers beat the Tharptown Wildcats 28-13 to advance to the semifinals of the tournament. Red Bay led Tharptown 12-6 at halftime.

Blake Oliver led Red Bay with 6 points. Carly Cason led Tharptown with five points.
