Argument over loud music leads to attempted murder charge

RUSSELLVILLE — A Phil Campbell man is facing attempted murder charges after getting into an argument with a neighbor over loud music on Echo Ridge Road. Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said a call came into the sheriff’s office around 5 p.m. Wednesday that there had been a shooting on Echo Ridge Road, which is about 6 miles south of Russellville.

When deputies arrived on the scene a 52-year-old man had suffered a gunshot wound to his side in the stomach area, according to Oliver.

The victim also had been grazed by bullets to the neck and head.

The shooter, who was identified as 50-year-old Elton Lee Strickland, shot the victim with a 9mm handgun, according to Oliver.

The victim also happens to be the husband of Strickland’s ex-wife, Oliver said.

The victim was transported to Russellville Hospital and later transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment.

Franklin said he did not believe the gunshot wound the victim suffered was life-threatening.

Strickland was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

He also was wanted on a failure to appear in a warrant regarding a 2019 case in which he was charged with unlawful drug trafficking (opium) and certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm.

Strickland’s trial had been continued at least four times since his arrest in 2019, according to court records.

Strickland has been booked into the Franklin County Jail, where he remains pending an Aniah’s Law bond hearing.

Franklin County Assistant District Attorney Fallyn Pharr on Thursday filed a motion to revoke Strickland’s bond after he was charged with attempted murder.
