Belgreen Bulldogs boys team bites back, downs Bobcats in county clash

The Belgreen Bulldogs boys team emerged victorious in a hard-fought county rivalry matchup against the Phil Campbell Bobcats. After a back-and-forth contest, the Bulldogs secured the win with a strong second half, ultimately defeating the Bobcats.

Belgreen came out firing in the first quarter, outscoring Phil Campbell 14-8; however, the Bobcats roared back in the second quarter, tightening up their defense and finding their rhythm on offense. Phil Campbell outscored Belgreen 13-5 in the second frame, taking a narrow lead into halftime.

The momentum shifted once again in the third quarter as Belgreen regained control of the game. The Bulldogs outscored the Bobcats 14-10, setting the stage for a tense final quarter. Belgreen sealed the victory with a strong defensive effort in the fourth, holding Phil Campbell to just five points while adding 11 of their own.

Bracycen Johnson led the charge for the Bulldogs, pouring in 15 points. Jonathan Mendoza contributed eight points, while Jake Dill added seven. Hunter Woodruff chipped in with six points, Aaron Rubido scored five and Gabe Estrada rounded out the scoring with three points.

Austin Elliott paced the Bobcats’ offense with a game-high of 15 points. Hayden Wingo provided a valuable contribution with 11 points, while Logan Wright added eight. Madden Welch scored two points for Phil Campbell.

The game was a physical battle between the two county rivals, with both teams displaying intensity and determination. Belgreen’s ability to regain control in the second half proved to be the difference-maker, securing a well-earned victory over Phil Campbell. The two teams will meet again in the Franklin County Tournament semifinals on Friday night.
