Red Bay runs away with B-Junior title
The sharp-shooting Red Bay Tigers ran away with the B-Junior division of the Franklin County tournament. The young Tigers shot the ball like a varsity team, hitting 18 three pointers in three games with 12 of those coming from Cooper Corum.
There was never any doubt who the dominant team was throughout the tournament with Red Bay beating Phil Campbell by 17 points in the quarter finals, East Franklin by 16 in the semifinals and Tharptown 31 in the finals.
Red Bay beat Tharptown 42-11 in the finals to take the trophy jumping out to a 9-0 lead to start the game. The Tigers led the Wildcats 20-3 at halftime and was firmly in control throughout the game.
Clayton Lindley led Red Bay with 18 points. He was followed by Cooper Corum with nine points, Talon Strickland with five points, Sawyer Humphries with six points and Cayson Collins with four points.
Drake Massey led Tharptown with six points followed by Evin Lawson with five points. Semifinals – Red Bay, 44; East Franklin, 28 Clayton Lindley and Cooper Corum combined for 33 of Red Bay’s 44 points in a 44-28 win over East Franklin.
Red Bay led East Franklin 25-11 at halftime on the way to an easy win.
Lindley led Red Bay with 18 points with 14 points coming in the second half alone. Corum nailed five threepointers to score 15 points. Cayson Collins added six points, Talon Strickland three points and Sawyer Humphries two points.
Jacob Potter and Luke Morgan led East Franklin with eight points each. Aaron Stowe, Kyle Wood and Dusty Frost added four points each. Semifinals – Tharptown 43, Vina 20 Evan Lawson scored 21 points to lead the Tharptown Wildcats past the Vina Red Devils 43-20.
Lawson hit five first half three-pointers to help the Wildcats race out to a 25-10 lead by halftime. Tharptown extended their lead to 35-12 by the end of the third quarter.
Russ Herron followed Lawson with eight points. Drake Massey added six points, Colton Willoughby four points and Aiden Borden two points.
Kendon Rhodes and Skylar Childers scored seven points each for Vina. Quarterfinals – Red Bay 54, Phil Campbell 37 Red Bay led Phil Campbell 32-13 at halftime and went on to beat the Bobcats 54-37.
Cooper Corum and Cayson Collins scored 18 points and 17 points respectively to lead Red Bay. Corum made three of his four three-pointers in the first quarters. Collins also hit three three-pointers in the first half.
Jack Owens led Phil Campbell with 13 points.
Quarterfinals Tharptown 39, Belgreen 28 Tharptown led Belgreen 19-13 at halftime and went on to beat Belgreen 39-28.
Evan Lawson led Tharptown with 18 points, making four three-pointers. Ross Heron added 12 points for the Wildcats.
Belgreen was led by Zed Wilson who scored 13 points.
