Russellville basketball player stands out

E.J. King scored 32 points in a 66-41 win over the Phil Campbell Bobcats on Friday night.

King scored 10 points in the first quarter and 11 in the second quarter to power the Golden Tigers.

Russellville led Phil Campbell 18-8 at the end of the first quarter and extended their lead to 38-19 by halftime. The Golden Tigers continued their run into the third quarter leading 55-32.

Cam Phinizee followed King with 13 points and Jah Williams added 10 points. Rylan Pratt added five points. Zaye Hubbard, Malachi Groce and Parker Odom scored two points each.

Hayden Wingo led Phil Campbell with 14 points. He was followed by Austin Elliott with seven points, Isaac Duboise with five points and Logan Wright with four points. Madden Welch, Bailey Nix and Jeremiah Smith scored two points each. Kye Baker added a layup at the end of the game for the Bobcats.

Phil Campbell girls take down Russellville The Phil Campbell Bobcats spoiled the return of Russellville sharpshooter Ella Copeland, beating the Golden Tigers 54-49.

Phil Campbell Senior Macy Hardy scored 24 points to lead the Bobcats past Russellville.

Copeland, who has been rehabbing a torn ACL, came into the game late in the first quarter and played limited minutes and scored 15 points, making two three-pointers.

Phil Campbell jumped out to a 16-9 lead in the first quarter and led 30-21 at halftime. Russellville outscored the Bobcats 16-10 in the third quarter to cut Phil Campbell’s lead to 40-37 but the Bobcats held on down the stretch.

Leela Baker and Kaylie Motes followed Hardy, scoring 14 points each. Mia Ambrosio added two points and Sidda Rogers one point in the win.

Laila Hill led Russellville with 17 points followed by Copeland. Jemma Moore added nine points, Angelia Smith five points and Alexis Groce three points.

Copeland scored her one thousandth career point as a Golden Tiger in the game.

Phil Campbell 59, Colbert Heights 23 Macy Hardy scored 24 points to lead Phil Campbell to a 59-23 lead over Colbert Heights in a two-game area stretch.

The Bobcats jumped out to a 21-2 lead in the first quarter and led by as much as 25-2 in the second quarter. Phil Campbell led 28-15 at halftime and 47-23 at the end of the third quarter.

Leela Baker followed Hardy with 17 points. Kaylie Motes and Lily Stewart scored six points each. Mia Ambrosio, Sidda Rogers and Chaley Bullington scored two points each.

Phil Campbell 48, Sheffield 38 The Phil Campbell Bobcats held off the pesky Sheffield Bulldogs 48-38 to improve to 2-1 in area play.

Phil Campbell struggled with Sheffield’s pressure defense early in the game leading to a very low scoring game. Phil Campbell led Sheffield 6-5 at the end of the first quarter and the game was tied 15-15 at the half.

Phil Campbell’s halftime adjustments paid off with the Bobcats outscoring the Bulldogs 19-7 in the third quarter to take a 34-22 lead. Phil Campbell held on in the fourth quarter for the win.

Macy Hardy led Phil Campbell with 19 points followed by Leela Baker with 16 points. Sidda Rogers added six points. Mia Ambrosio and Kaylie Motes scored two points each.

Phil Campbell splits area games The Phil Campbell Bobcats split area contests last week, beating Colbert Heights 54-41 and falling to Sheffield 48-44.

Austin Elliott and Hayden Wingo combined for 32 points, scoring 16 each, to lead the Bobcats past the Colbert Heights Wildcats.

Phil Campbell led Colbert Heights 12-9 at the end of the first quarter and extended their lead to 28-21 at halftime. The Bobcats continued to race past the Wildcats, leading 46-28 at the end of the third quarter.

Brady Williams followed Elliott and Wingo with six points. Shooter Motes and Isaac Duboise scored five points each. Bailey Nix added four points and Madden Welch two points. Sheffield 48, Phil Campbell 44 Phil Campbell overcame a slow start and scoring production from just four players to give the Sheffield Bulldogs all they wanted, falling 48-44.

Hayden Wingo led Phil Campbell with 21 points. The Bobcats got points from just three other players, Austin Elliott with 12 points, Madden Welch with five points and Logan Wright with four points.

Sheffield looked like they were going to run away with the game early on, jumping out to a 15-0 lead. Phil Campbell, however, held their poise and cut the lead to 15-6 by the end of the first quarter. The Bobcats outscored the Bulldogs 11-7 in the second quarter to cut Sheffield’s lead to 22-17 at halftime. Sheffield held onto a 36-31 lead at the end of the third quarter and stopped the Bobcats’ comeback attempt in the fourth quarter.
