Cross country season underway with Pepsi Invitational

Cross country runners from around the county participated in the traditional opening season run, the Pepsi Invitational, in Moulton.

Eleventh grader Briseyda Luna of Belgreen finished 11th out of 137 runners in the small school division. Her finishing time was 23:59.25. “I’m very proud of her and her ability compete like she has,” said her team’s head coach, Talon Thomas. “She’s been running for four years – since seventh grade. She is almost two minutes from finishing in first place. She is going to shave that time off easy. This was only her second race this year.”

Thomas said Luna is of “small stature,” but added she “is a running machine,” noting he’s “very excited and hopeful” about her opportunities for a scholarship, not only because she is “a great athlete,” but also because “she is extremely bright and works hard with her academics.”
