Red Bay High School football schedule preview

The Red Bay Tigers will be in rebuilding mode this year after losing more than a dozen seniors. While the Tigers will still be talented, they may take some time to gel. Red Bay coach Heath Childers will enter his fourth year at the helm of the Tigers squad.

Last year, they went 6-5 and finished fourth in their region. Red Bay averaged 32.2 points per game and gave up 24.1 points per game. They lost to Tuscaloosa Academy, 35-16, in the first round of the playoffs.

Red Bay High School Football Schedule Rundown

August 30 – Red Bay travels to Lamar County. The Bulldogs and Tigers last played in 2017 with Lamar County coming out on top, 21-12. The Bulldogs finished fourth in their region and lost to Tanner in the first round of the playoffs in a shootout, 64-55. Lamar County is 7-2 historically versus Red Bay, and they’veoutscored the Tigers 231-115.

September 6 – Red Bay hosts University Charter. Welcome to the new world of high school sports. University Charter, based out of Livingston, played their first season in 2022. The Trail Blazers finished 5-6 and lost to Elba 70-8 in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs. They played Tuscaloosa Academy, the same team to eliminate Red Bay from the playoffs last year, and lost by 22. Red Bay lost to Tuscaloosa Academy by 19.

September 13 – Red Bay travels to Winston County. The Yellow Jackets will have a new head coach this year. Last year, they went 5-5 and finished fifth in Class 2A Region 5. Winston County scored 30.9 points per game and gave up 22.6 ppg. Red Bay won the last four meetings, the last two in the first round of the playoffs, most recently in 2020. The Yellow Jackets are 4-11 when facing the Tigers.

September 20 – Red Bay at Lexington. The Lexington Golden Bears set some program records in scoring last year, putting up 77 points in a single game against Tharptown and 364 points on the season. Lexington is 16-10 against Red Bay, and they’ve won the last three in a row. The Golden Bears won this game last year 33-22.

September 27 – Red Bay at Belmont. The Tigers will travel across the state line to play rival Belmont this year. The Tigers beat the Cardinals last year, 14-6. Red Bay has won four out of the last five meetings, and they hold a 35-22-1 advantage in the series.

October 11- Red Bay at Tharptown. Red Bay has dominated this series since Tharptown jumped from Class 1A to Class 2A. Red Bay has never lost to Tharptown, and the Tigers have outscored the Wildcats, 560-70. Red Bay won this game last year, 50-14.

October 18 – Red Bay hosts Decatur Heritage. Red Bay has never played the private school from Decatur. The Eagles won Class 1A Region 7 last year. They set a program record for margin of victory, beating Carbon Hill by 55 points. The Eagles were 9-2 and lost in the first round of the playoffs to Winterboro, 42-37. They averaged 27.9 points per game and gave up 17.9.

October 25 – Red Bay hosts Tanner. The Rattlers won Class 2A Region 8 last year and beat Red Bay 46-14. This year’s Rattlers won’t be nearly as dominant, losing all of their starters and head coach. Tanner went on to lose to Pisgah in the second round of the playoffs last year, 66-38. They averaged 41 points per game and gave up 26.7 points per game. Red Bay is 10-12-1 against the Rattlers, and the Tigers have been outscored 547-509.

November 1 – Red Bay hosts Phil Campbell. Phil Campbell went 4-7 last year and finished fourth in Class 3A Region 8. The Bobcats lost to Gordo in the first round of the playoffs, 56-6. Red Bay beat Phil Campbell last year, 52-20. The Tigers lead the series, 49-32. The rivals have split the last two meetings. Prior to that, Red Bay was on a 14-game winning streak.
