The Vina Red Devils are coming off a tough season. Vina went 1-8 last year. The Red Devils’ only win came in the last game of the season, beating Phillips 42-32. Vina averaged 9.6 points per game and gave up 42.6. The Red Devils will compete in Class 1A Region 7 with Phillips, Shoals Christian, Cherokee, Hackleburg, Waterloo, Addison and Meek.

Vina Football Schedule

August 30 – Vina hosts Brindlee Mountain. Vina and Brindlee Mountain have never met in football. This is a good opening game for the Red Devils. The Lions were 0-10 last year, the worst season in the program’s short existence (six years). Brindlee Mountain scored 7.9 points per game and gave up 52.6.

September 6 – Vina travels to Phillips. The Bears will enter their fifth season with Adam Lawler at the helm. Last year, Phillips went 2-7, averaged 13.1 points per game and gave up 41.7 points per game. Vina lost this game last year, 14-0. The Red Devils’ last win in the series came in 2019. Phillips leads the series 46-10.

September 13 – Vina hosts Shoals Christian. The Flame have been playing football for 27 years. Last year, they went 5-6 and 4-3 in region play. Vina lost to Shoals Christian last year 40-0. Vina last beat the Flame in 2019. Shoals leads the series 18-4.

September 20 – Vina at Cherokee. Cherokee set a program record last year scoring 70 points against Tharptown. The Indians finished 5-5 and fifth in Class 1A Region 8. They averaged 30.8 points per game and allowed 21.8 points per game; however, in their five losses, Cherokee scored 44 points and gave up 164 points. The Indians beat the Red Devils last year, 49-0. Cherokee leads the series overall, 15-8. Vina’s last win came in 2019.

September 27 – Vina hosts Tharptown. This will be Vina and Tharptown’s first game in a couple of years. Tharptown had a rough season last year under first year coach John Johnson. The Wildcats gave up a program record of 534 points, including 77 to Lexington. This has been a strong, and sometimes heated rivalry. Vina dominated the series early, winning the first seven games, but Tharptown has owned the series lately winning seven of the last eight games.

October 4 – Vina hosts Hackleburg. The Panthers were the winners of Class 1A Region 8 last year and had a dominant season going 11-2. Their only losses were at the beginning of the season to Phil Campbell and in the third round of the playoffs to Coosa Christian. Most of their core team returns this year. Hackleburg leads the series 59-10-2. Vina hasn’t defeated Hackleburg since 2001.

October 11 – Vina hosts Waterloo. Waterloo was the lone win for the Red Devils last year, beating the Cougars 42-32. Waterloo went winless last year. Vina leads the series 27-20.

October 18 – Vina at Addison. The Addison Bulldogs went 8-3 last year and finished second in Class 1A Region 8. The Bulldogs beat the Red Devils 50-0 last year. They averaged 33 points per game and gave up 12.1 points per game. Addison leads the series 17-2-1. Vina hasn’t defeated Addison since 1953.

October 25 – Vina hosts Meek. The Tigers finished 6-5 last year and third in their region. They averaged 29.1 points per game and gave up 20.8 points per game. Meek set a program record, scoring 72 points against Phillips. Vina lost to Meek last year, 46-8, and the Tigers are 14-8-2 against the Red Devils. Vina’s last win over Meek was in 1985.

November 1 – Vina at Belgreen. This is another game that has a chance to be a great football rivalry in Franklin County. With Belgreen playing their first varsity football schedule in modern history, this game could be one to watch for several years.
