Local students earn collegiate honors

Mississippi State University names local Stephen D. Lee scholar

Bailey Bolton, of Red Bay, Ala., was recognized as a Stephen D. Lee Scholar during Mississippi State University’s spring commencement exercises.

Bolton is one of 113 students who attained this honor among nearly 3,500 spring graduates. Stephen D. Lee Scholars have achieved a cumulative 4.0 grade point average during their college careers.

Bolton, who studied Elementary Education, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from MSU’s College of Education.

University of West Alabama releases president’s, dean’s lists

Jonathan Tidwell has been named to the University of West Alabama’s spring President’s List for academic achievement. A special education major from Russellville, Tidwell is a member of the class of 2027. Franklin County students on the Dean’s List include Rhett Smith of Russellville, majoring in elementary education and Mason Webster of Red Bay, majoring in special education.

University of Maryland Global Campus names local student to Dean’s List

Kaylea Milam of Red Bay was named to the Dean’s List for the spring term at the University of Maryland Global Campus. To be eligible for the honor, a student must complete at least six credits during the term, earn a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the term and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 at UMGC.

Russellville student graduates from Manchester University

James Hubbard of Russellville graduated with a Bachelor of Science in business management from Manchester University during the 2023-2024 academic year. Commencement was May 18.

Hubbard was among nearly 250 students who received degrees from Manchester. The list of 2024 conferred graduates includes students who finished requirements in December 2023, January 2024 and May 2024.

Area students earn recognition from Wallace State Community College

Area students earning a place on the president’s and dean’s lists include:

  • Abby Sweeney of Russellville – President’s List
  • Alyssa Morrison of Russellville – Dean’s List
  • Jaidyn Quillen of Russellville – Dean’s List
  • Landan Shaffer of Phil Campbell – Dean’s List

To earn a spot on the Wallace State President’s List, students must maintain a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester while taking a course load of 12 or more hours. Placement on the Dean’s List is awarded to students maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher while also taking a course load of at least 12 hours.
