RPD, FCSO raise funds through softball game

The Russellville Police Department and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office competed in an inaugural softball game May 18 at the Lee Sports Complex by Sloss Lake on Highway 24 in Russellville.
As part of the free event, they took up donations for Sheriff’s Deputy Jarrett Yancey who was recently involved in a motorcycle wreck, subsequently incurring medical expenses.
“It’s a good way to get the the community involved,” said RPD Chief Chris Hargett. “We have a basketball game we play every year, and the softball game is something new.”
Hargett said despite some rain at the beginning of the game, it turned out to be “a pretty good night,” adding it’s “good to have a little bit of fun” and let the community see a different side of them. He said it also provided “a good opportunity to build comraderie between departments.”
Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver described the event as “good fun,” noting a lot of enthusiasm both on the part of the players and others in the departments, as well as the crowd.
