Get involved with meaningful awareness activities this month
It’s just the truth that not every cause is going to be important to every person.
No matter how touching the story or how great the need, some things just aren’t going to resonate – and that’s OK.
Not everyone is going to think pink in October, and not everyone is going to give blood in January. Someone isn’t going to take part in the recycling campaign, someone isn’t going to buy the fundraiser doughnuts, someone isn’t going to wear the cancer ribbon.
Most of us, however, do find our hearts connecting with one or more of these kinds of efforts throughout the year. Whether it’s an event or initiative to benefit pets or people, the environment or education, and so on and so forth – it will tug on someone’s heartstrings and spur them to action.
Here are a few causes that might stir you to action this month. According to various Internet pages, April brings us:
- National Child Abuse Prevention Month
- National Donate Life Month
- National Minority Health Month
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome Awareness Month
- National Parkinson’s Awareness Month
- Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Awareness Month
- Arab American Heritage Month
- Alcohol Awareness Month
- Limb Loss Awareness Month
- Month of the Military Child
- STI Awareness Month
- Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month
- Sports Eye Safety Month
- National Distract Driving Awareness Month
- National Autism Awareness Month, with World Autism Acceptance Day falling April 2
- National Public Health Week – April 1-7
- National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day – April 10
- Earth Month, with Earth Day April 22
- National Parks Week, April 20-28
- World Malaria Day, April 25
That’s quite a list to get you started, and it’s far from exhaustive. If you’re finding yourself with a little extra time; a little extra energy; a little extra compassion; a little extra money; a little extra anything, really, why not find a cause you can support?
