Look ahead: Franklin County football hits road
The Friday night lights will be off in Franklin County this week. All teams will be on the road, except for Vina, which has an open week.
Phil Campbell (1-1) travels to Elkmont (2-0). The team goes on a long road trip for the second consecutive week. After struggling at Lamar County in a steady downpour last week, the Bobcats look to regroup at Elkmont this week. This has been an easy game for Phil Campbell the past few years, but the Red Devils look to be vastly improved, beating Sheffield 30-29 in their season opener and demolishing Brindlee Mountain 64-0 last week. Phil Campbell won this game 58-20 last year.
Red Bay (1-0) travels to Lexington (1-1). Red Bay was supposed to be coming off an open week. Instead, the Tigers are coming off an impressive 54-27 win at Hamilton last Thurs. Red Bay will stay on the road this week as they travel to Lexington. The Golden Bears opened the season with a 42-25 win over Colbert Heights but lost last week to Pisgah by almost the same score, 42-27. Red Bay lost this game last year 40-14.
Russellville (2-0) travels to Lawrence County (1-1). Russellville is off to a great start with home wins over Grissom and Deshler. The Golden Tigers will go on road this week to Lawrence County. The Red Devils opened the season with an easy 41-7 win over Danville but lost last week by the same score to Guntersville. Russellville won this game last year 49-0.
Tharptown (1-1) travels to Tanner (0-2). The Tharptown Wildcats regrouped after a tough season opening loss to Shoals Christian with a come-from-behind 22-15 win over Phillips. The competition gets considerably tougher for the Wildcats this week as they go on the road to Tanner. The Rattlers are off to a slow start losing their first two games; however, the two losses were close and to very good teams in Lauderdale County and Mae Jemison. Tanner beat the Wildcats last year 63-0.
