Red Bay wins two over Tharptown in error-riddled series

The Red Bay Tigers picked up two area wins this past week over the Tharptown Wildcats in series that was fraught with errors. The teams combined for 27 errors in the two games.

In game one Tuesday, Red Bay committed 10 errors but was still able to come away with a 13-12 win.

Tharptown led 10-9 after five innings, but the Tigers scored three in the top of the sixth and one in the top of the seventh to take a 13-10 lead.

The Wildcats kept battling, scoring two in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 13-12. Tharptown got a runner to third, but a line drive to the second baseman ended the game with Red Bay on top.

Red Bay got two doubles each by Eli Farris and Reed Hamilton. Farris added two RBIs and scored twice. B.P. Blair had three hits and three RBIs and scored a run. Ty Reynolds had two hits and two RBIs and scored. Jeremiah Thorne had three hits and scored twice. Carson McGee had two hits and an RBI and scored twice.

For Tharptown, Ty Engelthaler had two hits and two RBIs and scored a run. Logan Bevis had a hit and three RBIs and scored twice. Jessie Mitchell had two hits, including a double, and RBI and scored twice. Dawson Higgins doubled and scored. Hunter Motes singled in a run and scored twice.

In game two of the series Thursday, Tharptown committed eight errors, proving costly down the stretch. The Wildcats lost to Red Bay 7-6.

Red Bay led 4-2 after four innings. Tharptown scored three in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. Red Bay scored three in the bottom of the seventh to get the win.

Red Bay’s Jeramiah Thorne had three hits, including a double and two RBIs, and scored. Dallas Terrell and Ty Reynolds scored twice for the Tigers.

Tharptown got a double and two RBIs from Jackson Clement. Engelthaler scored twice.
