County softball: Belgreen tops Phil Campbell, Tharptown shuts out Red Bay

Among noteworthy recent county softball games, the Belgreen Bulldogs beat the Phil Campbell Bobcats 9-2 this past week.

Belgreen scored three runs in the first inning and led 3-0 through two and half innings. Phil Campbell cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning, but it was all Belgreen from there.

The Bulldogs scored one run in each of the next three innings and three runs in the seventh to pull away from the Bobcats.

Morgan Vandiver had three hits, two RBIs and scored twice to lead the Bulldogs.

Lily Blackburn had three hits and an RBI and scored. Hannah Borden had two hits, one RBI and two runs.

Borden pitched five innings for Belgreen, allowing two runs on four hits. Blackburn pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit.

For Phil Campbell, Payten Herron had three hits and two RBIs.

Belgreen 12, Cherokee 4

Makayla Willingham had a big day at the plate with a home run, double, four RBIs and two runs scored to help lead Belgreen past Cherokee 12-4.

The game was tied 3-3 after three innings, but the Bulldogs held a slight 5-4 advantage after six innings.  Belgreen blew the game open with a seven-run seventh inning for the win.

Belgreen scored the 12 runs on 12 hits and six Cherokee errors.

Noelle Willingham also homered. She had two hits and an RBI and scored three times.

Morgan Vandiver had two hits and two RBIs and scored twice.

Belgreen 2, Meek 0

Blackburn pitched a three-hit shutout to beat the Meek Tigers 2-0. The Bulldogs got a triple from Willingham and doubles by Hannah Borden and Mackinley Hogan.

Tharptown 5, Red Bay 0

Freshman Alyssa Fischer pitched 12 shutout innings this week in wins over Red Bay and Phillips.

Fischer pitched a three-hit shutout of the Red Bay Tigers early in the week to get the Wildcats a 5-0 win. Later in the week she pitched five and a third innings of shutout softball in a 12-0 route of the Phillips Bears.

Fischer also got work done at the plate. She was a home run away from hitting the cycle against Red Bay with a single, double and triple and two RBIs. Against Phillips, she had two hits, including a double.

Against the Tigers, Harleigh Borden doubled and scored twice. Lexi Little singled and doubled with an RBI. Autumn Tharp scored two runs.

Against Phillips, Tharp tripled and doubled. Cortney Smith went three for four with two doubles, three RBIs and scored. Borden had two hits, including a double. Kyndall Morgan scored two runs.
