County softball teams face off

RED BAY

Red Bay 5, Vina 4

The Red Bay Tigers built a 5-0 lead through their first two innings at the plate and held off a late rally by Vina to win 5-4 Saturday.

The Red Devils scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning and two in the bottom of the fourth.

Ava Oswalt doubled twice and scored twice. Hannah Butler hit a two-run home run. Emma Blackburn had two hits and scored twice.

Journee Swann pitched four innings for Red Bay, allowing two earned runs on three hits.

Gesler led Vina with two hits.

Red Bay 8, Winston County 5

The Lady Tigers got off to a hot start to beat the Winston County Yellow Jackets 8-5 this past week.

Red Bay scored five runs in the first inning to build a sizable advantage to hold off Winston County.

The Tigers scored their eight runs on four hits. Both teams committed six errors in the field.

Butler pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs on four hits and striking out six.

Butler, Journee Swann, McKayla Young and Gretchen Davis all scored in the first inning.

VINA

In a different game, the Vina Red Devils beat the Red Bay Tigers this past week 9-5. Vina broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the third inning and added four more runs in the fourth to win the game.

The bats were hot in this game, with Vina getting 10 hits and Red Bay eight.

Kaitlyn Athey had three hits, including two doubles and two RBIs, and scored three runs. Kass Gesler doubled, had three RBIs and scored twice. M. Mitchell added two runs for the Red Devils.

Athey led Vina from the circle, pitching seven innings, allowing one earned run on eight hits.

For Red Bay, Oswalt had two hits, including a double and two RBIs, and scored twice. Jazmyn Pearson had two hits and two RBIs.

PHIL CAMPBELL

Phil Campbell 10, Vina 0

The Phil Campbell Bobcats shut out the Vina Red Devils 10-0. The Bobcats scored three runs in the second inning, four in the third and three in the fifth to get the win.

Phil Campbell had eight hits and took advantage of five Vina errors.

Mia Ambrosio had a two-RBI single and scored. Brittney Coffman had a hit and scored twice. Grace Baker also scored twice.

Alexis Stewart had a single, RBI and scored a run. Payten Herron had two hits and scored a run. Chaley Bullington doubled and tripled for the Bobcats.

Chesney Hamby pitched five innings and allowed no runs and one hit.

Phil Campbell 9, Tremont 3

Phil Campbell broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the third inning and broke the game open in the fourth, scoring five runs, to top Tremont. The Bobcats had seven hits in the game.

Hannah King had three hits, including a double and triple, three RBIs and scored twice. Patience Mays scored two runs. K. Tayler had a double and two RBIs.

Addi James pitched five innings, allowing no earned runs and one hit and striking out five.

Phil Campbell 4, Brilliant 1

Despite being outhit 5-3, Phil Campbell took advantage of some poor fielding to beat Brilliant 4-1.

The Bobcats got a double, RBI and run from K. Taylor. Chaley Bullington, Macy Welborn and Shiloh Madden all scored for Phil Campbell as well.

Hamby got the win, going six innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out five.

BELGREEN

Belgreen 13, Marion County 3

An eight-run outburst in the third inning propelled the Belgreen Bulldogs past the Marion County Red Raiders 13-3 this past week. The Bulldog bats were hot, pounding out 15 hits.

Lily Blackburn went three-for-four with a double and two RBIs. Belgreen got two hits each from Noelle Willingham, Hannah Borden and Makayla Willingham, who hit a home run.

Noelle Willingham, Morgan Vandiver, Bryn Scott and Makayla Willingham scored two runs each.

Borden led from the circle, pitching six innings, allowing no earned runs on two hits and striking out eight.

Belgreen 2, Colbert County 0

The Lady Bulldogs scored the only two runs they would need in the bottom of the first inning, beating the Colbert County Indians 2-0.

Noelle Willingham scored first on a fielder’s choice. Scott scored the second run on a bunt single by Blackburn.

The Bulldogs got two doubles from Brooke Tompkins and a double each from Noelle Willingham and Blackburn.

Blackburn pitched seven shutout innings and allowed six hits while striking out four.
